With more than 300 staff across its offices worldwide, ICAP Energy is the energy-focused commodity arm of ICAP plc, providing coverage of base and precious metals, emission credits, crude oil and oil products, electricity, natural gas, coal, freight and weather derivatives. ICAP Energy is a leading energy broker with operations in London, Amsterdam, Bergen, Singapore, Sydney and seven centres in North America.
In May 2007, ICAP acquired the Shipbroking business J.E. Hyde, its joint venture partner since 2005 in freight derivatives, to form a new company, ICAP Hyde. ICAP Hyde offers a broad spectrum of shipping services, including dry cargo chartering, sale and purchase, freight derivatives, research, yacht-broking and web design.
In January 2008 ICAP Hyde acquired Capital Shipbrokers Ltd, a privately-owned shipbroker based in London. The acquisition of Capital Shipbrokers immediately strengthened ICAP Hyde’s physical broking capabilities by offering tanker chartering in both the crude and product markets in addition to adding to the existing sale and purchase broking team. ICAP Hyde operates out of London, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Shanghai, Gibraltar and Singapore.
In addition, ICAP Energy began broking a new commodity - carbon emissions - under a European Union scheme that limits the carbon dioxide that companies in energy intensive industries are allowed to emit.
ICAP Energy is consistently named Broker of the Year by Energy RISK magazine in an annual poll of market participants.
